After keeping cattle producers waiting for months, USDA has released a report on the investigation into the boxed beef and fed cattle price spread. The investigation was prompted after a fire closed the Tyson beef packing plant in Holcomb, Kansas in September 2019, followed by the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year. Several policy improvements including increased price discovery, transparency and competition are outlined in the report. The report does not examine potential violations of the Packers and Stockyards Act, any violation found by will be reported to the Department of Justice for prosecution. View the full report.
