The July rains kept Kulm, North Dakota farmer Bart Schott from finishing up the 2019 corn harvest. “We have up to 250 acres of corn unharvested. The roads went underwater in places here, which also didn’t help. The little bit of corn we have left will be zeroed out.” The 2019 harvest will certainly be memorable. “Corn quality came up quite a bit over the winter and that made a difference for the crop,” says Schott. “We are pleased with that, but the yield was down, because a lot of the crop was falling over. Maybe the 2020 crop will be a little more normal?” As North Dakota farmers like Schott finish harvest, they are also starting to apply for Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
