Livestock producers must make sure any livestock bought or received from other states meet North Dakota’s import requirements. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says due to recent meat plant closures, the department is aware of individuals planning to purchase live animals, particularly swine, directly from out-of-state producers for processing. “Whether an individual is purchasing and importing one or more animals from out of state for food processing purposes, those animals need to meet the state’s import requirements unless they are going directly to a state or federal processing plant,” says State Veterinarian Dr. Susan Keller. The North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Animal Health Division is assisting by making sure animals have proper documentation for movement. Read more.
