USDA is still working on a rule for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. Pro Farmer Washington policy analyst Jim Wiesemeyer says the $19 billion for the program isn’t going to be enough for farmers and ranchers. “You don’t have to go far when you’re talking about livestock, dairy and specialty crops before hitting those payment caps.” Wiesemeyer says administratively, the USDA can make adjustments to the payment caps, but the funding has to come from somewhere. Lawmakers are trying to add more funds to the Commodity Credit Corporation. “There are several bills within the topic area making rounds on Capitol Hill,” he says. “It’s not a matter of if, it’s when we get additional funding.”
