It’s been one week since the USDA announced the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. Since then, lawmakers and agricultural organizations are giving feedback before a rule is submitted to the Office of Management and Budget. One request from the agriculture sector on direct payments is the removal of the $125,000 payment limit. University of Illinois agricultural policy specialist Jonathon Coppess explores how the removal of payment limits could impact the assistance. “The payment limits equalize the support. It’s probably one of those things they’ll have to sort out. In general, given a limited amount of money, the more that any one or few would take up, the less money could be available for someone else.”
