The North American Meat Institute is working with a patchwork of local, state and federal government agencies to keep meat packing plants open during the current COVID-19 crisis. Julie Anna Potts, who is president of the organization, said the industry needs “additional backing from our federal government to reinforce the critical nature of our packing plants to feeding our consumers, but also providing a place for our animals to go. That situation has become more and more acute and we are working on that hourly everyday.”
