USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has responded to a petition addressing accurate beef labeling from the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association. In the petition, the association asked that any beef product labels suggesting U.S. origin, such as “Made in the USA” or “Product of the USA”, be derived from cattle born and harvested in the country. FSIS will now consider a second round of rulemaking. In a press release, the cattle association said “it is clear now that Congress will need to step in to fix the current labeling problem.” Read the full FSIS response.
