USDA officials have started trade talks with Great Britain. USDA Under Secretary Ted McKinney says animal welfare continues to be a major concern. “When I arrived, I met the Secretary of Agriculture. He was very clear about talking animal welfare standards.” According to McKinney, the country is indicating it will not budge on animal welfare standards in trade talks. This was expected by USDA. “It will not be easy. It’s been many years where they’ve been married to their friends from across the channel.”
