The coronavirus expansion in and outside of China continues to impact the markets. Kluis Commodities hedge consultant Jacob Burks says coronavirus is the only story in all of the commodities right now. “When fear hits the market, it’s measured in volatility. That’s what we’re seeing. Some major volatility across all sectors,” says Burks. “This is a macroeconomic scare in the market right now.” While the fear of coronavirus may be overdone, the reality of the logistics shutdown in China is very real. “This is the largest manufacturing country in the world that didn’t have workers for three weeks. Exports are going to ports that may not have people there to work. Now that people are coming out of the quarantined areas, the virus could spread.”
