There was certainly no shortage of challenges for cattle producers in 2019. That means adjustments should be made to the herd health plans. Merck Animal Health technical services veterinarian Tim Parks says one hurdle is bovine respiratory disease. “We are hearing more and more about lungs that are scoring as showing signs of pneumonia but have never been treated,” says Parks. “A lot of times it’s nothing more than reevaluating vaccination protocols and making sure we are treating cattle when necessary.” The optimal window to get farm and ranch work done seems to be narrowing, especially in difficult years.
