The use of technology has made vast changes in the way farms do business. Stearns Dairy Herd Improvement Association customer service representative Christa Schlosser says technology is also changing how dairy herds are managed. “I grew up on a 40 cow dairy. The biggest single change is how farmers implement technology. That’s one of our challenges at the lab, taking the data they are accustomed to seeing and making it more technology driven.” Schlosser says return on investment is driving the technology. “Our farmers are driven by regulatory, nutrition, sales and virtually, the bottom line comes back to the data. The only way they can implement this reasonably is to take those numbers and have them accessible.”
