At the 2020 Cattle Industry Convention, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue joined National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Jennifer Houston onstage. The fireside chat started with talking about trade successes for the U.S. beef industry. While China, Canada, Mexico and Japan are all checked off the list, there is opportunity for U.S. beef in the European Union now that Brexit is complete. “Europeans love U.S. beef,” said Perdue. “It’s their politicians and leaders that have created these non-tariff barriers over issues to keep U.S. beef out.” Secretary Perdue also commented on the future of imitation meat products, saying he prefers a “juicy beef burger any day of the week.” Perdue ended the conversation by encouraging cattle producers to be proactive and tell their beef story. “We have a great story to tell, now get out from behind the farm gate and tell it. We can’t have the three pillars of environmental, social and economic sustainability with just two. There has got to be the third.” Listen to the fireside chat here and check out the RRFN story.
