University of Minnesota and NDSU Extension sugarbeet agronomist Tom Peters challenged attendees at the Wild World of Weeds, asking them if a weed control program should begin or end with a trait. “With resistant weeds and weeds in general, you have to know what your most important weeds are and build a program around the two most important weeds. That program may be only useful in one field on your farm,” said Peters. “Farmers don’t have to do the same thing on every field. In fact, farmers probably shouldn’t do the same thing on every field. Build your programs on the weeds that you have in the field.”
