In the quarterly USDA Hogs and Pigs report, the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) reported record hog inventory for this quarter. As of December 1, NASS says there were 77.3 million head in the U.S. swine herd, three percent more than one year ago. Minnesota’s hog herd was one percent larger than one year ago at 9.2 million head. South Dakota’s hog herd grew 14 percent from a year ago to 1.99 million head. North Dakota’s swine herd was down two percent from a year ago at 142,000 head.
