Canada’s farmers produced more wheat, barley and oats in 2019, while canola, corn and soybean production are down year-over-year. According to the latest Statistics Canada Production of Principal Field Crops report, total wheat production at 32.3 million tonnes. The slightly higher wheat production comes on a 2.7 percent increase in yield to 49.8 bushels per acre. Harvested area declined 2.3 percent. Canola production was down 8.3 percent to 18.6 million tonnes, the lowest level since 2015. Harvested area was down nearly nine percent from one year ago to 20.6 million acres. The report says Canada’s corn production was down 3.5 percent on lower yields. Soybean production fell 18.5 percent on a 10.6 percent reduction in harvested acres.
