According to American Crystal Sugar Company, estimated payments for the 2019 sugarbeet crop, also referenced as the 2020 fiscal year, decreased to $37 a ton. That’s due to the lower sugar content and higher per ton operating costs resulting from reduced volume. Trying harvest conditions also resulted in several thousand acres lost. The forecast total shareholder payments will decline to $278 million.
