A large share of the corn in the region is still standing. That crop is highly variable with low test weights and high moisture levels. Lovas Ag Consulting founder Sarah Lovas is also seeing some hybrids with more broken kernels. “Some times when corn freezes immature, those kernels break up when they dry down. I’ve heard reports of corn with lighter test weights when dried, the BCFM (Broken Corn and Foreign Material) goes quite a bit higher from when they took it off the combine.” Grain elevators are monitoring corn deliveries for broken kernels.
