North Dakota Senator John Hoeven, Minnesota Representative Collin Peterson and American Crystal Sugar Company CEO Tom Astrup are calling on USDA to provide disaster funding to sugarbeet farmers and cooperatives. Farmers in the Red River Valley left approximately 118,000 acres of sugarbeets unharvested, equating to one-third of their total acreage. Hoeven says the ask follows Under Secretary Bill Northey’s visit to the region, where he saw the conditions firsthand. “We’re trying to get them included in the disaster assistance program and working with Secretary Northey to do that,” says Hoeven. “It’s about helping our farmers across the state during challenging times.” Get additional details here.
