On Tuesday, South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley met again with President Trump to discuss ethanol and the Renewable Fuel Standard. In the meeting, Rounds says President Trump called EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and put him on speakerphone. “President Trump made it very clear he fully intends for there to be a 15 billion gallon RFS commitment for 2020. President Trump sat down with us and listened to concerns and directed the EPA get to the 15 billion gallon net, not beginning number, but ending number for the RFS.” Rounds says the discussions didn’t address the lost gallons due to small refinery exemptions. “Most of the discussions we’ve had within the industry is to get this back to 15 billion gallons now. That’s what we’re trying to get done. It would be great to exceed 15 billion gallons.”
