The U.S. and China have not yet come to terms on a phase-one trade deal. China is reportedly demanding the U.S. remove all trade tariffs, which seems to be a non-starter for the Trump Administration. American Soybean Association Vice President Bill Gordon remains cautious. “When our soybeans leave our ports and they’re being used in China and we get paid for it, I’ll be excited.” Gordon says the trade dispute has made U.S. agriculture hyper-aware about the importance of foreign markets. That includes a focus on the quality of U.S. soybeans. “We’re hammering out the mindset that crude protein isn’t what you want to look at for (an animal’s) diet; you want to look at essential amino acids. Our northern soybeans really shine when it comes to the digestibility of those amino acids.” The interview with Gordon can be heard online.
