There is a lot going on in Washington D.C. right now as it relates to the cattle industry. Rising to the top for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is the issue of fake, or lab processed, meat. “Legislation has been introduced on the issue,” says NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Ethan Lane. “The Real Meat Act gives a codification in statute of the definition of beef. We want to make sure consumers know what they’re buying right now, and our market research shoes they don’t right now.” NCBA CEO Colin Woodall says it all boils down to sustainability. The topic has an impact on all facets; trade, fake meat, environmental compliance and more. “We can produce the same amount of beef today as in 1977 with one-third of the cattle,” says Woodall. “That message isn’t getting to the consumer, so we’re spending more time setting the record straight.” Listen to the story.
