The North Dakota Farm Service Agency and others worked to fast track disaster declaration so farmers could access to the WHIP plus program. Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce said farmers still need to harvest their crop. “We know there’s lots of crops in the field that need to be harvested,” said Fordyce. “We’ll have to play that by ear to see how that goes.” Quality isn’t part of the WHIP plus program, but farmers would like it to be. “I’ve talked to a lot of people about the damage to wheat quality. I think that’s a conversation we’ll have to have,” he said. “I don’t know how we can address the quality issue. We had some last year, but I don’t know if other entities had a resolution on quality, but we’re trying to figure it out.” Listen to the story.
