USDA Risk Management Agency Administrator Martin Barbre and North Dakota Senator John Hoeven met with North Dakota farmers, bankers and crop insurance agents this past week. Rolette, North Dakota farmer Ryan Pederson said there were numerous questions about what qualifies for prevent plant. “Producers are concerned about the standing crop. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Barbre said the prevent plant depends on the company and I took his answer to mean there’s lots of gray areas.” Farmers also asked Barbre how to handle a loss of revenue in standing crops. “Senator Hoeven talked about the WHIP+ program and options available there.” More guidance is needed for farmers and crop insurance agents in the next few months, but Pederson says it was a good meeting.
