South Dakota Corn Growers Association Executive Director Lisa Richardson agrees, the EPA’s renewable fuels announcement is a step in the right direction. “It is our understanding the 2020 Renewable Volume Obligations could increase 1.3 billion gallons as a result.” EPA officials confirmed with reporters the current proposal would account for future exemptions, but it doesn’t account for small refinery exemptions that have already been issued. Richardson also says South Dakota farmers are still upset with the EPA. “This doesn’t by any means change the whole game, but it does put the Renewable Fuel Standard, in theory, back on to make sure more product is being used.”
