According to President Trump, Chinese officials called over the weekend saying the two sides should return to the bargaining table. Trump said China wants to make a deal and “that’s a great thing.” This morning, Trump also tweeted his respect for Chinese President Xi and China’s call for “a calm resolution” to the trade dispute. This news follows comments made by Trump at the G-7 summit in France, suggesting he was having second thoughts about the trade war with China. Hours later, the White House released a statement saying the president’s comment was misinterpreted and his only regret was that he hadn’t raised tariffs higher.
