Heading into the weekend, the Environmental Protection Agency approved 31 new small refinery exemptions from the Renewable Fuel Standard. The move has been widely criticized in farm country. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson said this decision undermines the Renewable Fuel Standard and the market for corn. At a time when ethanol plants are shutting down, Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper called the news “unfathomable and utterly reprehensible.” National Corn Growers Association President Lynn Chrisp said farmers are losing patience with the Administration.
