U.S. and China trade discussions were top of mind as the U.S. Grains Council wrapped up their Board of Delegates meeting in Ohio on Wednesday. North Dakota farmer and former USGC chairman Jim Broten says the U.S. has lost some business and some face in China. “We’ve been there for many years trying to build markets, but we just don’t know how it’s going to turn out. Everyone is nervous about it. We’re still going to try and service the market the best way we can. They are turning their attention to other markets, working hard to develop them. We may have lost our share of the market for sure.” USGA members discussed recent Agricultural Trade Promotion monies received from the government. Those will go toward establishing new markets in India and West Africa.
