While some market analyst and traders point to a lack of Chinese buying as a reason for low market prices, Loewen and Associates president Pete Loewen says China has been a steady buyer of U.S. products, just not at the levels most were expecting. “China can randomly make it to the top five buyers list at the end of the week. We haven’t seen big sales recently for pork, but in the shipment list, they’re usually in the top three.” Loewen says maybe expectations for China purchases are not realistic. “There are lots of expectations given the stories floating around about the need for pork in China. Given the expansion in U.S. pork, we can meet that demand.”
