The Senate Agriculture Committee discussed re-authorization of the U.S. Grain Standards Act in a hearing on Wednesday. The legislation expires in September 2020. Chairman Pat Roberts was eager to hear what’s working well and what needs improvement. “Maintaining the certainty and predictability of the grain inspection weighing system is the key for the success of flow of grain and oil seeds from their origins on farms to their final destinations at critical export markets.” National Association of Wheat Growers member and Kansas farmer Brian Linen was a witness in the panel discussion. “With the tough economic conditions being faced by farmers, it’s critically important to maintain a strong system.”
