After a wet start to the growing season, crops in the Hillsboro, North Dakota are rebounding. A stretch of 80- and 90-degree temperatures helped accumulate growing degree days. Lovas Ag Consulting owner Sarah Lovas was waiting for that warmer, drier weather. “The corn is pollinating right now. Some of the later-planted corn or full season hybrids are about 30-50 percent complete.” A later frost this fall is needed to help the corn reach maturity. Generally speaking, Lovas says the soybeans are just starting to pod. “I wish we were further along, but at least we’ve gained some ground. We got a heavy rain around July 4, about four inches, which did cause some drown out.”
