The Bank of North Dakota celebrated its centennial anniversary Monday in Bismarck. Governor Doug Burgum says the bank was born out of necessity during some very difficult times. “People at the time were facing difficulties of being at the beginning of a long supply chain, growing commodities and not getting a fair price. They didn’t have access to markets or capital.” Burgum says the challenges have not changed much since then. “Agriculture has changed tremendously, but we’re still at the beginning of a long supply chain, competing for capital and some days we don’t feel like we get the prices we need,” says Burgum. “The answer is more added-value in North Dakota. The Bank of North Dakota could be one tool to help us do that.”
