This summer, the rain hasn’t really shut off for farmers in south central Minnesota. Sherburn farmer Rochelle Krusemark says the area has received over 20 inches of rain since the start of planting. “It almost seems like the weather has played hopscotch. Even within a county, the rain has been so sporadic,” For the area, Krusemark estimates ten to 15 percent of corn acres are prevent plant. Most of the soybeans were planted, but planting was very late. While this growing season has been a challenge, Krusemark did get cover crops planted on some of the prevent plant acres. “Even if you don’t have livestock, putting a cover on that land is much better than keeping it fallow.” Listen to the conversation.
