On Tuesday, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer told the Senate Finance Committee that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is being fair and constructive in USMCA discussions. “I know generally what people want and what we can do, I just need someone on the other side to say this is enough,” said Lighthizer. “The speaker is sympathetic to that and she facilitated that. I think we’re making progress. My hope is over the course of the next couple weeks we can make substantial progress.” House Democrats want a few things addressed in the USMCA before voting on it, including labor provisions. Lighthizer said his objective is to get as much bipartisan support possible for the trade agreement.
