Japan’s decision to eliminate trade restrictions on U.S. beef includes the 30-month age limit for cattle. U.S. Meat Export Federation economist Erin Borror says Japan is already the largest export market for U.S. beef with sales topping $2 billion last year. USMEF projects the increased market access will increase exports by another $150 million to $200 million each year. “The biggest increase is probably going to be in the variety meats category” with additional purchases of products like tripe and tongue.
