A strong interest from buyers and sellers is keeping the cow market strong. Joe Varner says there’s an uptick in cows being sold at the five barns he oversees in Bagley, Motley, Pierz, Winger and Fergus Falls. Long Prairie Livestock Exchange owner Brad Thelen says there are auctions each week this spring. “The kill cow market is getting stronger so that’s helping the dairy cow market. The slaughter end of the dairy cows are up about ten cents on the hoof,” says Thelen. “If they were worth 45 cents three months ago, they’re now worth 55 to 60 cents by the pound. If they weigh 1,200 pounds, that’s about $700 a head.” Listen to the story.
