Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says dairy farmers are getting more comfortable with the new Dairy Margin Coverage program, but not all agricultural lenders understand the changes for the dairy safety net. That has made securing funding more difficult for dairy farmers. “Some bankers are going as far as to tell their farmers not to sign up for the program when it comes out and they won’t lend the money to do so,” says Sjostrom. “There are two months until the June sign-up to get bankers on board and there are several dairy farmers who don’t yet have loans to get seed in the ground.”
