President Donald Trump has repeated his threat to close the U.S.-Mexican border. Unless Mexico stops illegal immigration or Congress passes stricter immigration laws, Trump promises to close all or part of the border. In an Oval Office event, the president acknowledged this decision would hurt the economy. “Let me just give you a little secret; security is more important to me than trade.” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders indicates the president has not set a timeline for action. South Dakota Senator John Thune described the border shutdown as a “bad idea.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi downplayed the issue, calling it “an applause line, not an idea.”
