Pivot Bio is introducing the first in-field solution to biological nitrogen fixation for the 2019 planting season. This product attaches to the plant roots and feeds the crop each day. Minot farmer Chad Rubbelke will be using this microbial fertilizer option. “With our high pH, our cold temps and high organic matter, we have so much against us when it comes trying to get nitrogen down to where the plant utilizes it. I think this is a key in getting nitrogen down to our root system.” With the field-to-market philosophy, the goal is to a significant impact on the carbon footprint. With the focus on sustainability Rubbelke believes there will be new market opportunities. “With our wheat and durum, canola and specialty crops; they’re starting to throw up bids for increased pricing on commodities that are shown to be sustainable. I think it could be a huge play in this area.”
