The South Dakota legislative session wraps up Wednesday. South Dakota Farm Bureau lobbyist Michael Held says the biggest win for farmer members was to defeat attempts to increase property taxes. “Schools wanted to do a $30 million increase in property taxes through the capital outlay taxation,” says Held. “Farm Bureau was the leader in getting that beat back a few weeks ago. We settled that issue.” Farm Bureau also addressed other measures in the session, including youth driving permits and a labeling law for lab grown protein.
