In a tough agriculture economy, farmers are weighing their options when making decisions. According to Jessi Way, a farm marketing consultant with Hurley & Associates, producers should first understand the basic needs of their farm. “The biggest factor right now is crop rotation. If you are putting a crop in the ground based on today’s prices, get something locked up.” There are many marketing tools available for farmers to use. While the many choices can be overwhelming, Way reminds farmers to keep it simple. “Using tools available at your local elevator and simple put options will get you a long way. Getting a plan together will be key for this year’s crop.” Way spoke to farmers at the 82nd North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City.
