Grand Forks County Farmers Union President David Gorder is home after spending most of the week on Capitol Hill meeting with lawmakers. “Our goal was to bring awareness to our federal representatives about many farmers being in a crisis; they are being hurt due to the lack of global demand from the tariffs and also due to high transportation costs that are contributing to a high basis with North Dakota being a captive-shipping state.” Gorder heard differing opinions about the U.S.-China trade negotiations. The Trump Administration offered a positive view while the North Dakota congressional delegation was less optimistic. The North Dakota Farmers Union organized the Washington, D.C. trip.
