North Dakota farmers devoted nearly 6.9 million acres to soybean production in 2018. Yields averaged 35.5 bushels per acre, up one bushel per acre from the previous year. North Dakota corn yields came in at 153 bushels per acre, up 14 bushels from 2017. Canola production was record high at 3.1 billion pounds, up 24 percent from the previous year. Record yields were seen as well with a statewide average of 1,960 pounds per acre The oil sunflower yield average of 1,750 pounds per acre is a new record for North Dakota. The amount of ground devoted to non-oil sunflowers in the sate was record low last year. North Dakota dry bean production declined 13 percent; potato production declined four percent and sugarbeet production was down 11 percent.
