Sustainability is a buzzword in the food and farm sector. Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association executive director Duane Maatz says sustainability has an impact on the environment, but it also means economic viability. Maatz cites the ‘field-to-fork’ initiatives in the Red River Valley. “There’s a certain number of growers that are a benchmark in time; sustainability is a direction and not a destination.”
