A study published this week in the scientific journal, Nature Biotechnology, features a new method for discovering and cloning genes that could accelerate the development of rust resistance in wheat and other crops. Scientists at the University of Minnesota along with colleagues in England and Australia have taken the lead on this project. This new strategy calls for the identification of many new genes for disease resistance for use in the development of wheat varieties.
