The sugar lobby is highly regarded in political circles for its ability to influence policy. Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association Vice President Neil Rockstad believes farmers work together, which is a reason for their success. “If we have differences of opinion, we work them out behind closed doors. We go to Washington, St. Paul or Bismarck, with a unified front and that has worked well for sugar.” Rockstad farms at Ada and is a member of the American Sugarbeet Growers Association board of directors.
