Due to the government shutdown, the U.S.-Japan trade talks have been delayed. The formal negotiations were expected to begin January 20, but staff from the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office have been furloughed. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries are already gaining increased market access in Japan with the updated Trans-Pacific Partnership.
