At the Farm Bureau convention, Jon Leadbetter of Wishek, North Dakota advanced to the “Sweet 16” round in the Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet. Leadbetter says the topics addressed in the competition can lead to future Farm Bureau policy and programs. One of the questions was based on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). “How can we attract the brightest minds in STEM to come to agriculture? I think that’s a great question as we move forward with better technologies for the ag industry.” Katy VanderWal of Brookings, South Dakota and Katie Winslow of St. Cloud, Minnesota were among the 36 contestants from across the country.
