The U.S. potato industry is focused on strengthening market access with Mexico going into 2019. Steel and aluminum retaliatory tariffs are impacting U.S. frozen potato products. National Potato Council Vice-President of Public Policy Kam Quarles says the 20 percent duty is a competitive disadvantage. Currently, the European potato industry has zero duty access to Mexico. Strengthening U.S.- Mexico relations are pending on many things, according to Quarles.
