With the lapse in government funding, some USDA activities will be shut down or significantly reduced. On Twitter, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said Farm Service Agency offices will remain open with regular business offices until Friday, December 28. Farmers can come in a certify production for Market Facilitation Program payments during that time. Those farmers who are certified will still receive payments despite the government shutdown. Funding will also continue for meat inspections, grain inspections and inspection for import and export activity. Critical market information from USDA’s Market News Service will also be available. Information from the National Agricultural Statistics Service and World Agricultural Supply and Demand estimates will not continue during the shutdown.
