Sugarbeet growers are eager for a farm bill. American Crystal Sugar Company Vice-President of Government Affairs Kevin Price says there is potential for a slight increase of one cent per pound in the loan rate for sugar. “The loan program gives companies a little bit more certainty and a higher price at which they can make the loan,” explains Price. “It also acts as a higher level of support for sugar and that’s great because costs are rising on the farm dramatically. Farmers are getting squeezed from all sides.” House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson told American Crystal stakeholders Thursday “with any luck, we’ll have a bill done in the next week.”
